The Waldo Canyon fire near Colorado Springs started midday Saturday, June 23. I returned home when my neighborhood was placed in a voluntary evacuation status that afternoon. It took me 55 minutes to position valuables in the garage next to the car and take photos of every room in the house. On Tuesday, June 26 the fire breached a nearby ridge and I evacuated 30 minutes before the mandatory evacuation order. I returned home Saturday, June 30 to find my house safe. 346 houses were destroyed, the closest 3/4 a mile away. Two died in the fire. It is time to rebuild.
